Makati seminary taps solar energy

A seminary in Makati City has intalled solar panels to be more environmentally friendly.

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle led the inauguration and blessing at the Holy Apostles Senior Seminary (HASS) in Makati City. At least 72 units of solar panels were installed at the HASS that can cover up to 43 percent of the power requirement of the seminary.

“The use of solar energy supports the church’s teaching on the care of creation,” said Rev. Fr. Roy Decena, acting rector and dean of seminarians.

The solar installations were made possible with the help of WeGen Distributed Energy Philippines.

“This demonstrates the shared commitment of the Archdiocese of Manila, WeGen and the seminary community in heeding Pope Francis’ call to care for our common home as articulated in the encyclical Laudato Si,” Fr. Decena said in a Catholic Bishops’ Conference News post.

Since 2018, Caritas Philippines and WeGen have been working to install and operate solar power systems in archdioceses and dioceses across the country.
