#WalangPasok: Palace declares Aug. 12 a regular holiday for Eid al-A dha
President Rodrigo Duterte declared August 12 as a regular holiday in observance of Eid al-Adha or the Muslim Feast of Sacrifice.
Eid al-Adha is "one of the two greatest feasts of Islam" and Republic Act 9849 provides that it shall be observed as a regular holiday, Duterte said in his Proclamation 789.
Eid al-Adha commemorates the sacrifice made by Abraham in obedience to Allah’s command.
This major festival is celebrated by a pilgrimage in Mecca, Islam’s holiest city, sacrificing an animal, having a feast with family and relatives, and performing an act of charity to the needy.
Eid‘l Fitr last June 5, which marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, was also declared as a regular holiday.
Muslims make up around 6 percent of the Philippines of 100 million people, where 8 in 10 are Catholic, according to official data.
