DSWD lauds Munti for juvenile programs
The DSWD Regional Juvenile Justice and Welfare Committee – NCR praised the City Government of Muntinlupa for its outstanding programs on rehabilitation, re-integration and aftercare for children at risk and children in conflict with the law (CICL).
Muntinlupa City was adjudged as 2nd Place in this year’s Search for the Most Proactive LGUs in the implementation of the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006 during the celebration of the 7th Juvenile Justice and Welfare Consciousness Week at Ayala Malls South Park, Alabang last November 21.
Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi received the award from DSWD-NCR Asst. Regional Director for Operations Edna Sacedor and vowed to strengthen restorative justice and welfare system for CICL in the city.
“The local government continues to provide programs for children at risk under the custody of our youth care shelter facility at Bahay Pag-asa to improve their social functioning for them to be eventually reintegrated to their families and to their communities,” Fresnedi said.
Muntinlupa Social Welfare Officer Sheilla Enaje said the city fosters a strong partnership with the RJJWC-NCR to ensure the protection of the best interests of the children in accordance with the standards provided by the agency and the law.
Enaje also noted the collaboration of Bahay Pag-asa with members of the private sector for life skills development of the children in conflict with the law. She cited Crimson Hotel Alabang in providing an outreach and immersion program for the CICL.
An inter-agency committee composed of the local police station, barangay officials, state prosecutors, and family court officials also convenes quarterly to discuss services and intervention programs in ensuring the normal growth and development of the children at risk.
Further, the local youth facility center provides alternative learning system for children at risk and currently sends 10 CICL to mainstream educational facility through the active participation of both the child and their parents or guardians.
The Muntinlupa Bahay Pag-asa is a 24/7 facility equipped with social workers, psychometricians, and support group personnel under the supervision of the Social Service Department headed by Ms. Analyn Mercado. The City Government of Muntinlupa plans to open an improved Intensive Juvenile Intervention and Support Center facility for children by the end of 2018.
