With the alarming attack rate and increasing COVID-19 positive cases in the area, the local government of Muntinupa is placing five streets from a private village under a hard lockdown starting August 19. This is in addition to the five communities recently declared under the stricter community quarantine.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi called for an emergency meeting and ordered a 14-day Extreme Localized Community Quarantine (ELCQ) at Angelo St., Horrileno St., Endencia St., Paredes St., and Barrera St. in Katarungan Village, Brgy. Poblacion starting 12:00 p.m. of August 19 until September 2, 12:00 p.m.

Muntinlupa City Health Office (CHO) chief Dr. Juancho Bunyi said an alarming rise in COVID-19 cases was observed in the five streets from one block and minimum public health protocols such as wearing of face mask and face shield outside of residence were not observed.

Bunyi also noted that the areas are comprised of high risk groups such as senior citizens, children under 5 years old, and pregnant women.

The attack rate in the community climbed at 208.58 per 10,000 population from the previous week record of 73.61 per 10,000 population. While the doubling time in the area is at 4 days. As of August 17, there are 17 active cases in the area.

Total lockdown protocols will be implemented in the community and residents will be prohibited to go out of their residences, except for emergency. Residents who are outside of the area starting the duration of the lockdown due to work will be permitted to return to their households but will be restricted from going out again.

Barangay Poblacion announced that an additional vaccination site will be installed in Katarungan Village due to the alarming rise of COVID-19 cases in the area.

“Simula po sa ika-20 ng Agosto ay magkakaroon na ng Vaccination Site ang mga taga-Katarungan Village 1 sa JRF Covered Court Phase 2, ito ay dahil sa patuloy na pag taas ng bilang ng COVID-19 sa nasabing subdibisyon,” Barangay Poblacion posted on its Facebook account.

Residents of Katarungan Village are advised to wait for further notice and text from the barangay for their vaccination schedule. Walk-ins will not be accommodated and only those who received a notification will be inoculated.

Muntinlupa CHO is set to reinforce mass testing and contact tracing in the areas. While the City Social Service Department and Barangay will provide food packs and other basic items for the affected residents during the effectivity of the ELCQ. Further, the PNP Muntinlupa is set to secure the two communities and shall augment roving personnel in nearby areas to ensure the public’s strict compliance to health protocols.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi urges city residents to exercise extra caution especially with the rise of COVID-19 cases. He also encouraged the public to avail the vaccination service of the local government during the ECQ for them to have an added protection against the adverse effects of COVID-19 and to strictly observe minimum health protocols such as frequent hand-washing, wearing of face masks, and physical distancing.

Other areas under ELCQ include Purok 3, Molera Compound in Barangay Sucat and Purok 7, Beatriz Compound, De Mesa L & B Street in Barangay Alabang last August 6 until August 27, Block 8, Hills View and Mangga St., Lakeview Homes in Barangay Putatan last August 12 until August 26 and Chico St., Laguerta in Barangay Tunasan under ELCQ last August 10 until August 25.

As of August 18, Muntinlupa City has 17,312 confirmed cases with 14,872 recoveries, 2,028 active cases, 412 reported deaths, 28 suspect cases, and 2,368 probable cases.
