Pasay mayor explains class suspension procedure to students
Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano took time to explain how she arrives at the decision to suspend classes amid the bashing that local politicians received last week for the timing of their announcements.
During a chat with students in Kalayaan Village, Calixto-Rubiano said she can’t suspend classes on the first instance of rain.
Dahil babayaran nyo rin mga kulang na araw kapag may make up class ng Sabado maski Linggo,” she said.
Calixto-Rubiano said she barely sleeps when there are rains as she has to monitor the advisories from the state weather bureau PAGASA so she can make an informed decision.
The mayor said she doesn’t take students’ safety for granted but they need to understand that it takes time for information from PAGASA to reach local officials, so the decision making process on class suspension may sometimes be delayed.
